June 15: Tai Chi in Greg Freeman Park

Tai Chi is practiced for health, relaxation, stress reduction, and for other health benefits like breathing, balance, and anxiety relief. Sifu Herb Parran will lead a class that is very good for beginners and will consist of some meditation, Chinese health exercises, breathing exercises (called Chi Gong), and some simple Tai Chi movements that don’t require memory or prior experience. Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council (SDCC)’s Arts Committee invites all neighborhood youth to an arts workshop! Kids will work together to create a large-scale “DeBaliviere Skink,” which will be installed at Four Corners. The sculpture will become an informal mascot for the neighborhood. The skink is a kind of lizard that is native to Missouri. Children will also have the chance to make their own animals out of recycled materials that they can take home. This event will be hosted by the Skinker DeBaliviere Arts Council and led by professional artist Jenny Murphy of Perennial STL. To register your child/children, click here to download the registration form. Donations Wanted!
The Arts Council needs help from neighbors to collect used & recyclable materials for the workshop. Materials needed for the workshop include:  1) Colorful plastic bags (not brown, gray, or black) and 2) Colorful mesh fruit bags and 3) Large chip bags (for shiny colors!). Items can be dropped off at the SDCC Office-6008 Kingsbury Ave. at Des Peres-or call (314) 862-5122 to coordinate a drop-off time. Thank you!!

Enjoy a fine continental breakfast in the McPherson Community Garden, take a morning stroll to tour private gardens in your fair neighborhood, meet your neighbors, and discover hidden treasures. Really what could be a better way to spend your Saturday morning!

The event begins at 8:30am in the McPherson Community Garden (McPherson at Des Peres Ave.), and private gardens are open 9am-12noon.

Come roll up your sleeves and help develop the best option for the Delmar Loop and Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan, which is being conducted as part of the OneSTL – Regional Plan for Sustainability in parallel with Skinker DeBaliviere’s Urban Design and Development Plan.This plan will outline economic growth opportunities for the Delmar Loop and Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink station area. The Consultant Team, led by H3 Studio, will conduct an interactive work session where the team will present three plan options and ask for your direct feedback about how these alternatives work best for the communities, neighborhoods, and residents that make up the Delmar Loop and Forest Park-DeBaliviere station area.

Shake-38 is a city-wide celebration of the complete works of William Shakespeare sponsored by the Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis.  Crossroads College Prep is participating by staging a reading of Shakespeare’s comedy, “Love’s Labor’s Lost”. This event will be a free festival celebrating the arts of Crossroads School with live music, dancing, art exhibits and of course, William Shakespeare.  All are welcome and encouraged to bring picnics and lawn chairs!

Tim Murrell, Director of Career and Technical Education  at St. Louis Public Schools and Chip Clatto, Principal, will present the District’s plans to reopen the Des Peres School for the freshman class of a new Medical Careers High School program in the fall of 2013. All board meetings are open to the public.
