We invite you to come for the topics that interest you. Get tips that are easy to put into practice at home. Each presenter will give a short, fast-paced talk and have time for Q&A, so bring your questions. See below for the full schedule.
All attendees will receive a FREE 4-pack of lightbulbs. We will give away attendance prizes throughout the workshop including:
- a free furnace tune-up
- a free home energy audit
- Gift cards for your Ameren utility bill
We invite all homeowners and renters to attend! Invite your friends and neighbors. Food and beverages will be provided.
12:00noon: Richard Reilly, of the Sunflower+ Project and the EarthWays Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden, will talk about sustainability and energy conservation in the home, including how to improve the quality of your indoor environment while saving money an energy. 12:30pm: Judy Coverdell of Laclede Gas will talk about programs to reduce your heating costs including rebates for furnaces and insulation, and programs for low-income residents.
1:00pm: Stephanie Robinson of Ameren will talk about budget billing; rebates for air conditioning, furnaces, and old refrigerators; and will explain how to read and understand Ameren’s new monthly statement, which shows your usage history and is designed to help you manage your energy use. Attendance Prize: Two $25 Ameren gift cards will be given away.
1:30pm: Molly Pearson of Trailnet’s TravelGreen program will talk about how to save energy and get exercise while commuting – even as the weather gets cooler. She will bring examples of handy equipment that makes your bike more useful including bags to carry groceries, lights, and different types of locks.
2:00pm: Marc Bluestone of SmartHouse Home Performance Experts will talk about how to make your home more energy efficient. Some are very simple and can be accomplished by any homeowner in just a few minutes, while other ideas are more involved. Regardless of your level of interest and commitment, you will walk away with a list of great ideas to improve your home. Attendance Prize: A home energy audit (value $99) and a furnace tune-up (value $129) will be given away.
2:30pm: StraightUp Solar will talk about how solar electricity can save you money and protect our natural environment. Come learn about what it takes to install solar panels on your home, including current costs as well as guidelines for installing solar panels in a historic district such as ours. Their miniature, interactive “Solar House” will be on-site to give you hands-on experience with a solar panel system.
