Kid-Friendly Activities! – Better Block and SD State Fair

Story By Kerri Rawson, Pop-Up Library Team Member

Join us for Kid-Friendly Activities at Rock the Block, Skinker DeBaliviere’s first Better Block Project!!  On Saturday September 13th, from 12-4, children can enjoy art projects, children’s book area, old-fashioned games and activities, root beer, and chickens!

Children, under the age of 16, who are residents of the City of St. Louis, can also submit homemade or homegrown items for judging at the 2nd Annual SD State Fair, which will take place during the Better Block Project.   Junior categories include produce, livestock, cookies, needlecrafts, and birdhouses.  Check out Pinterest or Google images for some creative ways to make a birdhouse with your child this weekend!

As we gather together for this unique street event, we want to provide safe and fun amenities that children can explore and to showcase that we care about families.  We hope the more vibrant, walkable, and bikeable space created on September 13th will trigger thoughts and discussion on how our community can better meet the needs of family life.

We are still gathering several genres of books including children’s and young adult books, mystery/thriller, science, history, cookbooks, science-fiction, crafts, biographies, classics, chick lit, nature, historical fiction, and more.
