Mindful Safety Class at the STL Ki Society–Free!

July 21st, 2pm-4pm
[St. Louis Ki Society, 6006 Pershing Ave. at Des Peres Ave.]

SDCC and the St. Louis Ki Society have teamed up to offer a summer self awareness and safety class for adults!  Mindful Safety classes help participants develop positive awareness and skills that can help to see danger as it arises and take action while it is still easy to manage. Learning to trust and act on feelings and instincts play a primary role in safety. The same attitude that helps people appreciate and fully experience their surroundings also helps keep them safe. Mindful awareness, posture and movement are explored and related to issues of safety.

Mindful Safety classes use Ki Society teaching methods based on the principles of Aikido and Dynamic Meditation. These classes use visualization techniques, simple meditation, breathing, and movement to teach how mind and body are connected and interactive.

Mindful Safety classes do not try to teach standard Aikido martial arts techniques. The class spends a little time exploring physical responses that may help a person stay as safe as possible. These responses are based on redirecting and evasive maneuvers. The primary focus in Mindful Safety classes is to develop practical and responsive awareness that can reduce risk, promote safety and minimize the potential for injury.

The class will not be physically vigorous, but please wear loose comfortable clothing that allows free movement.  Ages 18 +

Pre-Registration Required. This class is being offered by the Ki Society for FREE but class size is limited, so please register by July 20th! To register contact the SDCC Office at 314-862-5122 or sdcc@skinker-debaliviere.com

Location:  St. Louis Ki Society’s Main Dojo, 6006 Pershing Ave. at Des Peres Ave.

Summer Samurai: Kids Aikido Classes

July 30th  – August 3rd 5:30-6:30pm
[St. Louis Ki Society, 6006 Pershing Ave. at Des Peres Ave.]

SDCC and the St. Louis Ki Society have teamed up to offer a children’s Aikido class!  Summer Samurai is a 5-day program consisting of five 60 minute classes. Each class builds on the material that was presented in previous classes. The children are taught the basics of Aikido. This includes movement and posture, rolling exercises, calmness and relaxation training, and one or two Aikido techniques. On Friday the participants learn movements with wooden practice swords and get to see some advanced Aikido.

Summer Samurai is open to ages  8 to 12 years. Because of safety concerns when working with wooden practice swords, children will need to show proper attention and discipline in order to participate in the Friday class. This is rarely a problem, and we always have fun, too.

The SDCC Summer Samurai session will be Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 6:30 pm,  July 30-August 3. Classes will be at the Saint Louis Ki Society dojo at 6006 Pershing Avenue. It’s best to wear loose, comfortable, clean clothes that are easy to move around in. Sweat pants and T-shirts work well. Skirts and shorts are not recommended. Students train barefoot on our beginner friendly matted training surface. For the first class, please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time.

Cost: If your little Samurai is eligible for free lunches through the St. Louis Public school system the five-day class cost is $5 total. All other little Samurai’s five-day class cost is $40 total. Class size is limited! PreRegistration Required. Class size is limited, so please register by July 27th.  To register contact the SDCC Office at 314-862-5122 or sdcc@skinker-debaliviere.com. Payments will be collected at the first class –cash, check, and credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) are accepted.

Location:  St. Louis Ki Society Main Dojo, 6006 Pershing Ave. at Des Peres Ave.
